We’re hiring: English Language Program Coordinator (Part-Time)
The Centre for Migrant Worker Rights Nova Scotia (CMWR NS) is a community-based organization which engages in support services, outreach, community-building and rights-based education to advance migrant worker rights, equality and well-being in Nova Scotia. We are currently seeking a part-time English Language Program Coordinator to develop, and oversee our English for Migrant Workers (EMW) Pilot Program in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM).

Schedule: 15 hours/week
Compensation: $28/hour + 4% vacation pay
Location: Remote, with some in-person activities in the Halifax Regional Municipality
About the Role & Program:
The English Language Coordinator will develop, and oversee the English for Migrant Workers (EMW) Pilot Program, which provides English-as-an-Additional-Language (EAL) instruction tailored to migrant workers (also known as Temporary Foreign Workers) in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). The Program aims to strengthen migrant workers’ connections to the community, reduce isolation, build confidence in navigating work and daily life in Canada, and enhance their understanding of workplace safety and labour rights through English language instruction.
The Coordinator will develop curriculum and educational resources, teach weekly classes, coordinate program delivery, and lead monitoring and evaluation efforts to assess program success. Language instruction will be primarily remote.
Key Responsibilities:
Curriculum & Educational Resource Development: Develop curriculum for English as an additional language (EAL) classes, including lesson plans. Develop short educational videos in collaboration with a video editor.
Program and Volunteer Coordination: Oversee delivery of the program, including promotions, managing class registration, organizing occasional field trips and evaluating learners’ progress. Deliver language classes to program participants. Coordinate volunteers to support the delivery of the program.
Monitoring & Evaluation: Design and administer surveys to evaluate program success and incorporate feedback to improve the program.
Wrap-Up Activities: Compile project information (i.e. contacts) and produce a written report on project results.
Experience and Qualifications:
Relevant training (i.e. TESL Certification)
Active TESL NS membership or ongoing professional development
Experience teaching EAL to adults, particularly immigrant or migrant communities
Training and/or experience in adult education
Experience in program coordination (including promotions and evaluation) and curriculum development for various learner levels
Experience in creation and development of educational materials such as videos
Knowledge of Canada’s Temporary Foreign Worker Program is an asset
Knowledge of workplace safety and labour rights is an asset
Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.)
Valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and access to a vehicle for work-related travel is an asset

Language skills in Spanish or other languages spoken by migrant workers is an asset
Conditions of Employment:
The Coordinator will report to the CMWR NS Executive Director.
The Coordinator and Executive Director will jointly determine the work schedule. Once courses begin, the Coordinator must be available some evenings and/or weekends in order to accommodate the learners’ schedules.
The role will entail a combination of remote work as well as in-person coordination in the HRM.
The Coordinator may be asked to perform additional duties as required and as their hours permit.
Reimbursement for certain expenses is available with prior approval.
