The Centre for Migrant Worker Rights Nova Scotia (CMWR NS) is a community-based organization which engages in support services, outreach, community-building and rights-based education to advance migrant worker rights, equality and well-being in Nova Scotia. We are currently seeking a Community-Based Research and Project Coordinator (Mental Health).

Compensation: $28.30 /hour + 4% vacation pay
Location: Remote, with some in-person activities in the Annapolis Valley
About the Role
The Community-Based Research and Project Coordinator will lead the implementation of a research project exploring grief, loss, and emotional wellness among migrant workers in the Annapolis Valley. This role involves project and research coordination, data collection, participant engagement, and public knowledge-sharing. The Coordinator will collaborate with a team that includes CMWR NS’ Executive Director, a volunteer researcher, and a part-time Research Assistant. Specific role tasks include:
Research Coordination & Data Collection
Ensure the project adheres to ethics protocols, including obtaining ethics protocols approval from the Community Research Ethics Office (CREO).
Lead data collection activities, including a survey, art-based workshops / focus groups with migrant workers, to identify personal, community, institutional, and systemic factors affecting mental and emotional well-being.
Develop and implement participant recruitment strategies, including creating recruitment materials, screening participants, and consent processes.
Develop research materials and tools (e.g. consent forms, survey, interview guides) that are accessible and culturally relevant.
Data Management & Analysis
Manage data collection, storage, and documentation in accordance with ethical guidelines and organizational policies.
Conduct qualitative data analysis to identify key themes and findings.
Public Communications & Knowledge Sharing
Contribute to the development of a public facing report.
Organize a public webinar to share research findings with community members, service providers, and other stakeholders.
Collaborate with a graphic designer and video editor to produce accessible knowledge-sharing materials for migrant workers, policymakers, and civil society organizations (e.g., handouts, social media graphics, one-pagers, short videos).
Event coordination
Organize two community events aimed at fostering connection and inclusion, and knowledge mobilization.
Project Management & Administration
Oversee project timelines, milestones, and deliverables to ensure successful implementation.
Coordinate internal communications, including scheduling meetings, documenting discussions, and managing project files.
Maintain organized records related to project activities, data management, ethics compliance, and reporting.
Support the preparation of progress reports, funder updates, and other required documentation.
Compile project information (i.e. contacts) and produce a written report on project results.
Experience and Qualifications
Minimum of Master’s degree in a related field, such as Psychology, Counseling, Social Sciences, or Health Research Methods, focusing on mental health, qualitative research methodologies and data analysis.
Experience coordinating community-based or participatory research projects, preferably in a non-profit, grassroots, or equity-focused setting.
Demonstrated experience with various research methods, including designing and facilitating focus groups, surveys, and arts-based or participatory approaches.
Experience working directly with migrant communities, racialized populations, and/or other equity-deserving groups using trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally responsive frameworks.
Experience developing accessible and plain-language research tools and materials for participants from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Knowledge of research ethics, including informed consent, participant confidentiality, and community-led ethical approaches.
Knowledge of the Canadian immigration system, including the Temporary Foreign Worker Program, and of mental health issues affecting migrant workers.
Proven ability to coordinate recruitment, outreach, and engagement activities including community events.
Experience managing and analyzing research data, including qualitative coding, quantitative survey data analysis, secure data storage, and reporting.
Experience drafting research reports, public-facing materials, and knowledge mobilization products targeted at both community and policy audiences.
Strong project coordination experience, including managing timelines, deliverables, and communication with a multidisciplinary team.
Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) would be considered a strong asset.

Ethics and Confidentiality: Strong knowledge of ethical research practices, including informed consent, privacy, and participant safety.
Project Coordination: Highly organized with the ability to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously, meet deadlines, and maintain clear records and documentation.
Knowledge Mobilization: Ability to translate complex findings into plain-language knowledge-sharing materials.
Communication: Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong ability to work collaboratively with diverse partners and stakeholders.
Event Planning and Facilitation: Competent in organizing activities and events for diverse audiences.
Technological Proficiency: Comfortable using Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.). Experience with analysis software (e.g., NVivo) considered an asset.

Conditions of Employment
The Coordinator will report to the CMWR NS Executive Director.
The Coordinator and Executive Director will jointly determine the work schedule. The Coordinator must be available some evenings and/or weekends in order to accommodate workers’ schedules.
The role will mostly be remote, with some in-person activities in the Annapolis Valley.
The Coordinator may be asked to perform additional duties as required and as their hours permit.
Reimbursement for mileage and certain expenses is available with prior approval.
