Volunteer With Us

Thank you so much for your interest in volunteering with the Centre for Migrant Worker Rights Nova Scotia (CMWR NS). Our work includes outreach, rights education, support services, community-building events, and advocacy, which are guided by the principles of mutual aid, anti-racism and anti-oppression.

Volunteers are vital to the work we do. A summary of available roles and how to get involved are below!

We’re currently recruiting volunteers for specific, high-impact roles. If you're passionate about supporting migrant workers and want to get involved, read on!


Featured Volunteer Opportunities:

Fundraising and Grants Working Group: We’re looking for experienced grant writers to join our Fundraising and Grants Working Group. This team helps us research, identify, and apply to grants that support the long-term sustainability of our work. A weekly time commitment of several hours is preferred. Find out more here.

Annapolis Valley & South Shore Committees: We’re looking for volunteers who want to build solidarity and engage in mutual aid locally with migrant workers


Other Ongoing Volunteer Roles

If you're not available for the current call-outs but still want to help, we’re always looking for support in the following areas:

  • Spanish-Speaking Volunteers – Assist with translation and interpretation, and support migrant workers in completing forms.

  • Lawyers and Law Students – Gain hands-on experience by assisting with cases, including helping migrant workers fill out forms.

  • Communications Volunteers – Support the preparation of our monthly newsletter, design graphics, and/or assist with online outreach.

  • ESL/EAL Volunteers – Support our English for Migrant Workers Pilot Program with promotions, language learning activities and/or field trips.

  • Research Volunteers – We are seeking volunteers to provide research, writing and/or policy support.

  • General Volunteers – Support transportation needs (valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle required), assist at activities like our community meal or public outreach events and/or assemble food boxes or care packages for migrant workers.
