We're Hiring: Gender Justice Navigator (Full-Time, Temporary)

The Centre for Migrant Worker Rights Nova Scotia (CMWR NS) is a community-based organization which engages in support services, outreach, community-building and rights-based education to advance migrant worker rights, equality and well-being in Nova Scotia. We are currently seeking a Gender Justice Navigator.

Schedule: 30 hours/week. Some evening and weekend work is required. 

Compensation: $26/hour + 4% vacation pay

About the Role

We are hiring a Gender Justice Navigator to support women migrant workers in the Colchester-Cumberland region through outreach, individualized navigation and support, and fostering community connections. This role also involves managing care package logistics, volunteer and community engagement, and supporting a needs assessment. This role is ideal for someone who is deeply committed to gender justice, migrant worker rights, and building stronger networks of care and support for migrant women.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Outreach & Engagement: Conduct outreach activities to women migrant workers in order to build trust, reduce isolation, and share information on rights and available supports. Share updates and event invitations through online platforms to foster connection and awareness.

  • Navigation & Support Services: Provide one-on-one assistance to address urgent needs related to workplace abuse, gender-based violence, health care, and exercising legal rights.

  • Care Package Coordination: Oversee project logistics related to care packages, including planning, budgeting, procurement, packing, coordinating orders, and organizing delivery.

  • Volunteer and Community Engagement: Recruit and support local volunteers and collaborate with community partners.

  • Needs Assessment Support: Assist a Consultant who will develop a needs assessment report.

  • Wrap-Up Activities: Compile project information (i.e. contacts) and produce a written report on project results.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the immigration system and the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.

  • Understanding of gender-based violence and trauma-informed approaches.

  • Experience working with marginalized communities, including immigrants, racialized people, and individuals with low literacy.

  • Experience in community outreach, coordinating volunteers and/or managing community partnerships.

  • Experience providing navigation or support services (e.g. assisting with applications, accompanying individuals to appointments, or system navigation).

  • Familiarity with budgeting or project management.

  • Valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and access to a vehicle for work-related travel.

  • Language skills in Spanish are an asset.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a small team.

  • Proficiency with Google Workspace tools (Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.).

Conditions of Employment:

  • The Navigator will report to the CMWR NS Executive Director. 

  • The Navigator and Executive Director will jointly determine the work schedule. The Navigator must be available some evenings and/or weekends in order to accommodate workers’ schedules.

  • The role will mostly be remote, with some in-person activities in the Colchester Cumberland region.

  • The Navigator may be asked to perform additional duties as required and as their hours permit. 

  • Reimbursement for mileage and certain expenses is available with prior approval.
